Our organic Golden Monkey is made in the traditional longer, black-leaf Fujian style with a healthy malty-side aroma. When we tasted this lot, wonderful cocoa and malt tastes were evident in the first steep. Using spring's tender leaves and buds, this black tea is naturally sweet and refreshing, with a taste that will linger. Note our lot offers a thicker, darker leaf profile with a smattering of golden bud. This tea has strength, will yield multiple steeps and will take milk and sugar.

Grown on a small tea farm in the higher elevations of the mountains near Fuzhou, in Fujian Province, a tea maker and true "artisan of the leaf" processed the very aromatic and tasty Mei Zhan green-tea varietal in the traditional pan-fired Xan Bei Xiang style. His process creates green tea leaves in wonderful shades of deep-green to light-gray colors that cup to a clear liquor with complex, nuanced flavors and naturally sweet notes. This is a prized, slow growing varietal made with a leaf process that is "old school" and increasingly rare. His tea farm uses organic methods and his tea is delicious!

Aromatic, large light-green leaves tinged with hues of red, have been lightly pressed into 10-gram cakes and offer yet another way to enjoy an oolong. Our Immortals Oolong is honey-sweet and light, it will linger in the mouth with a light flavor. As the cake unfolds and its large leaves and stems unfurl, the mass of leaf will yield multiple steeps. The cup liquor is clean, light-yellow, almost a shade of green. Tea has a light fruit note, lingers on the tongue. Each cake is wrapped in white paper, perfect for travel.

Jasmine Pearls is a delight to watch unfold as well as to drink. Early-picked green tea leaves are carefully rolled into small pearls with a white downy striping. Once rolled, the pearls wait until the jasmine flowers are harvested later in the summer. For a high-grade pearl such as ours, the flower petals are introduced and then removed after imparting their fragrance, a process that may be repeated up to seven times. Our supplier's family has been making jasmine teas for generations in Fujian Province and his skill is evident. This tea is exquisite, a sweet and delicate green redolent with fresh scent of jasmine.

A competition-grade, single-origin Tieguanyin oolong made in AnXi by a tea maker well-known for the superb quality of his teas. Classed as a clear and fragrant Tieguanyin, the leaves were fired briefly at low-temperature to ensure a fresh, green-color leaf with a very evident floral aroma. As the rolled leaves steep, they unfurl slowly and release lush, honey-colored liquor and an orchid-like flavor that will delight the palate and linger for some time. Lightly oxidized, uniformly large, the leaves are light-to-dark green. This oolong is rich and is good for many infusions as the leaves release complex flavors.

This Golden Monkey is made in the "Pang Yong Congou" style, a rare "family" of black teas that are produced in a village on the coast of Fujian Province. Tan Yang village is known for producing very high-grade, fragrant black teas, yet only a small portion of the tea produced here is actually made to black. Green has been the primary tea. Our "monkey" is a fine plucking, note the very delicate black leaf and gold buds. The taste is refined with nuanced with notes of malt and fruit.

Consumed primarily in the province, it is not well known and its taste is provincial . It well exemplifies the endless varieties and styles farmers are capable of making. This tea will cup to a deep yellow-green color, strong with hints of asparagus and some astringency along with the vegetal notes. If you enjoy a stronger green tea that puckers the mouth, these small pearls will deliver!

This lot of Silver Needle, made of plump Pre-Qing Ming spring buds, is grown in Zhenghe county and is traditionally processed. Plucked from the Zhenghe Da Bai tea varietal, it is masterfully worked to preserve its natural leaf shape. This tea is one for every tea drinker's collection. The bud is twinged with a greenish-gray hue and covered with the tender, downy hair giving it a velvety appearance. The liquor is soft yellow in color and delicate in flavor, savory with taste characteristics of melon and sweet apricot. It goes well most anytime and very well with fresh foods and desserts.

It is lighter, less vegetal in body than many green varietals and this makes it a pleasing everyday use tea. A good value given the high quality and workmanship of the leaf.
