In China, display teas celebrate the social and gastronomical value of tea. These teas are given as gifts around the holidays and the New Year. Typically, they are served with food and presented in glassware that allows the tea to be appreciated visually while it is also enjoyed as a beverage.
Many of our teas are made by artisans in a small village in Anhui Province that specializes in this art form. The process entails harvesting green tea leaves early in the day. After withering, the leaves become pliable and are then hand sewn with silk thread into numerous shapes such as Litchi Nuts, mushrooms and flowers such as Peonies or vibrant Red Chrysanthemums. These flower shapes adorn the center of the display as the leaves open in hot water. Display teas often are mixed with the petals of the Jasmine flower to infuse the tea with a wonderful and refreshing scent of Jasmine.
