Sticky Rice Pu-erh

The early summer leaves are plucked, sun-dried, blended and steamed with a wild rice herb “Nuo Mi Xiang” (Semnostachya menglaensis) and shaped into nuggets. This herb tastes just like sticky rice. Combined with a quality ripe Pu-erh, the flavor is smooth and earthy. Wrapped with paper, the tuo cha are an ideal size (5 grams) for individual serving. Pair with savory and slightly spicy foods.

Why we selected this tea. The ripe Pu-erh used is aged and has depth of flavor. The herb is high grade and the taste quite delightful. The result is “mushroomy” and offers a flavor compliment to hearty meal.

Interesting facts about this tea. The rice flavor results from the blending inof Nuo Mi Xiang, a natural herb that grows wild in Yunnan. A small ratio of this herb is mixed with a cooked or ripe Pu-erh. This process imparts a sweet and glutinous rice taste.

Taste profile. Smooth and earthy with an overriding taste of aromatic sticky rice. The taste is “mushroomy” and softly sweet.

Brewing suggestions. Use boiling water, rinse the nugget and pour off (not required). Use one nugget for 8-12 ounces of water. Re-infuse and steep for 3-4 minutes. If a strong flavor is desired, use 2 pieces. The nuggets will yield multiple steeps.

It is strong even with a short steep. Love the smooth taste--keeps me warm on
cold rainy days and evenings. I love GenMaicha--but I frequently oversteep or understeep or not use enough leaves or use too many---Sticky Rice Nugget gets it right.

  2. FAVORITE TEA! 5 Star Review

This pu-erh is my favorite tea of all times. I have reordered many times, and will continue to do so for many years. The subtle sweet rice taste compliments the earthy pu-erh taste to perfection! I have tried this tea Sticky Rice Nugget from many other tea companies, and none of them can match the high quality that Silk Road Teas offers.

Every tea enthusiast should try this tea at least once!

  3. very interesting! 4 Star Review

Sticky rice pu erh is a tou cha i took a chance on a couple of years ago. It is just a very interest flavor and strong aroma. By the time i finished my order of them i knew i needed to order it again. And have many times! I love ripe pu erh's but sometimes i want something more flavorful and i'm not big on the flowery oolongs. And my girlfriend doesnt like the stronger flavor of the green pu erhs. So sticky rice enters our selections nicely. The flavor is more like a strong soup. Almost a chili flavor? Not spicy but hardy... I'd love to read or know more about it or what other people think!!?? My girl and i are always happy when i brew this one!
