Golden Needle Organic - Jinzhen youji

Organically grown, elegant leaves open to unusually sweet flavors.

Golden Needle is one of a small group of what are classed as higher-grade black teas of Fujian Province. Skillfully crafted, early-spring pick leaves once processed appear shiny and thin and, with steeping open to release unusually sweet flavors and aromas. Cup color is a robust red. Our lot is organically grown in the coastal mountain area of Fu An, in Fujian Province. This area has a long and rich history in the production of high-quality black teas made from the famous Da Bai varietal.  Harvested April 2019.

Lot Notes
The leaf appearance and aroma suggested delicious flavors as there is nice blend of richly colored black leaves and a smattering of gold buds. We make every attempt to support organically grown teas so this fact plus its flavor profile made the selection easy. In tasting, we found this lot offers a full-bodied taste that is reminiscent of years past when this tea was more widely produced and conveyed stronger aromas and flavors.

Taste Profile
Seductively sweet and full-bodied, with an aroma that is chocolaty and malty. Steeps to a bright, clear red color.  Flavors are nuanced and rich; finish is warming and, of course, sweet.

Brewing Suggestions
Use water between 195 and 205 F. Three grams or a level tablespoon should make 8-12 ounces. Steep 2-3 minutes. Drain all the water from the leaves between infusions and they will yield multiple steeps.

Not really loving this tea. I purchased 1/4 lbs and don't know what to do with the rest?

    Golden Needle

This is my first time trying this tea. Upon first smell this tea has a very grassy scent. When steeped the liquid is a reddish gold color. It has a light, clean taste. Good for an everyday tea, and would go well with any food.
