Gunpowder
Great basic tea that adds depth to my iced tea blend.
This lot of organic Gunpowder is a loosely-rolled with a bright, green-side leaf. Made with the same harvest period leaves as used for tightly rolled Pinhead and medium rolled versions, this lot uses a larger leaf and is processed in a more “loose” style which brings forth a milder aroma and flavor. Made in Anhui Province, this Gunpowder has body; producing a dark green cup with a slightly pungent and, if steeped long, an increasingly astringent flavor.
Lot Notes
Its' loose roll appearance is unusual and notable. The taste it offers as a result is a bit less pungent than standard Gunpowder and arguably smoother in flavor. It offers a refreshing cup.
Tasting Notes
This lot will taste smoother, less strong and a bit less pungent than most Gunpowder. The natural astringency of this tea is low.
Brewing Suggestions
A level teaspoon or 3 grams of leaf is a good amount for 8 ounces of water. Use water at 185-195 F., steeping the leaves for 2-3 minutes. A shorter steep time will keep the natural astringency of this green lower. The leaves will steep 2-3 times.

Being one of the lowest price teas I wasn't sure how good it would be. It's actually really good quality for the price. The skill in brewing will greatly affect the flavor. To many leaves and it's too bitter, too few leaves and you don't get the nice roasted flavor. Brewed right it's not bitter and has a nice roasted flavor. It also is excellent served cold.
