Oolong Tea
There are literally hundreds of Oolong teas encompassing a wide variety of leaf styles and colors. Leaf appearances range from very large and rolled, slender and long to light green, rich red-brown and nearly black. Aromas are wonderfully varied, from floral and herbaceous to nectar, honey-sweet and roasted notes.
The rich flavors of these semi-oxidized teas results from a painstaking process of tumbling or otherwise bruising the surface of the leaves to develop and release their enzymes, rolling or twisting the leaves and lastly, firing them to enhance these flavors and then to arrest it. Oolongs are widely consumed throughout the world and are prized for their complexity of taste and for their health attributes.
Our oolongs come from Fujian and Guangdong Provinces. Our suppliers are artisans creating unique flavors through processes that have been practiced on their farms and within their families for generations and, often, are unique to their area. Our Phoenix Bird Oolongs offer colors and notes of fruit and honey. From the AnXi Region, our Tieguanyin, Ben Shan and other select varietals are greener in leaf appearance, low-oxidized, offering floral aromas and lighter golden-green infusions. Reflecting the great breadth of China's oolong offerings, we offer more traditional Tieguanyins that are nutty and roasty tasting. In all cases, these teas will give the drinker an ever-changing taste delight.
